Tea Party: Limit Voting to Property Owners
¡Mira que bien! (read that with dripping irony)
This has been churning around the Internet for a few days but I paid it no mind. It’s so ridiculous, how could they be serious?
Last night Chris Mathews volleyed it back and forth across the TV screen with Pat Buchanan, and this morning it won’t go away. Some Tea Party leaders want to limit voting rights to property owners. I’ll say it again. Some Tea Party leaders want to erase decades of civil rights battles and victories and limit voting rights to people who own property.

The piece is about 9 minutes long, but worth the watch because this ridiculous idea seems to be gaining, albeit a little, strength. It’s worth the watch because it flies in the face of the decades of work and sacrifice of generations past who fought against such flagrant discrimination and disenfranchisement.
And while I’d agree that a big chunk of our electorate is not prepared or informed enough to cast an educated vote, I don’t think property ownership would miraculously make them intellectuals.
The best way to fix this problem is education. ¡en serio! (we can drop the sarcasm now)
