Big Revelation: Latino Teens Just as Insecure as Rest
A new survey says that Latino boys are not as confident about their looks as once thought. So where do I begin?
As a former Latino boy, güerco, chilpayate, I must attest to an error in that statement. No es cierto, it’s not true that Latino boys were thought to be confident. Just ask any Latina girl.
The survey was conducted by YouthBeat, a Chicago based research organization. And the findings aren’t surprising. It took a survey to figure out that Latino teens are as uncomfortable with their physical appearance as any other teen in the country.
Here’s what Fox News Latino had to say about it: “About 75 percent of Hispanic boys in the 11 to 13 age group say they like the way they look – but that number plummets to 54 percent when they turn 14, according to the study.” The number parallels black teens and is slightly higer that Caucasian teens.
And Latina teens? No surprise, “Hispanic girls seem to be more stable, liking their appearance even when they age. The data shows that 55 percent of Hispanic girls in the 11 to 13 age group and the 14 to 17 age group both agreed with the statement that they liked the way they looked.”
