Música: The Cuban Cowboys
A friend sent me a link to an NPR story about a band, The Cuban Cowboys, this week and after listening to a few of their songs, I figured it’d be something to share. As a plus, these guys have a crazy story. The music is good, Latino-ish with a twist of rock and even maybe some country/folks, and in Spanglish, which turns out to be hilarious.
Lead singer, songwriter and Cubano Jorge Navarro was going to be a priest when he took his love of music seriously and became a musician. Then he started working on a Ph.D. in bilingual education and The Cuban Cowboys took off.
From the NPR story:
“…a year ago, I was still a candidate at the University of Florida. I was trying to find a way to prepare Anglo teachers for work with Latino students. Basically, I was in the process of getting back in touch with my culture and my first language, so I was very much into the music, having been a rock musician for a longer time than [I was] a Cubaphile. I ended up blending the two.”
Here’s one video, check ’em out and let us know what you think.
