Bush Says Immigration is Everyone’s Fault — But His
President George W. Bush’s new memoir “Decision Points” has proven to be a forum for many things, among them, a chance for the former president to avoid mea culpas and blame other people. For a lack of immigration reform, for example.
Some of us might remember that, before 9/11, Mexican President Vicente Fox was pushing Bush for immigration reform. Then after 9/11, Bush dropped the issue. But, he did manage to oversee one of the largest expansions of federal government in U.S. history that included the Department of Homeland Security — which incidentally encompasses the Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Did Bush not see an opening here to secure the country and reform immigration? No, actually, he says, it was the Republican congressional leaders’ fault, Democrats’ fault and the fault of the way we do politics, like say, in the style of Karl Rove?
Pretty easy to take a stand now that you’re hiding away in that cushy Dallas suburb, ey President Bush?
