‘Lucky’ Cinco Puntos Press turns 25

I’m always eager to promote Latino/Chicano arte.

With that in mind, I came across this article in the El Paso times about the 25th anniversary of the Cinco Puntos Press:

“In 1987, Cinco Puntos made a political statement of sorts — that Spanish is just as important as English — by publishing a bilingual version of New Mexico storyteller Joe Hayes’ classic tale ‘”La Llorona.”‘

It was considered a risky move in the publishing world back then. The book has sold almost 300,000 Advertisement copies. Cinco Puntos made the front page of the New York Times in 1999 when it published “‘The Story of Colors / La historia de los colores”‘ by Subcomandante Marcos, the rebel leader in Chiapas, Mexico.”
