Border Patrol: The Most Racist Video Game Ever

Just because it’s Wednesday and the repercussions of the election are starting to become clear, I thought it’d be interesting to take a look at one of the most racist video games of all time:  Border Patrol.  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, “There is one simple objective to this game, keep them out…at any cost!”

The game was uploaded to the NerdNirvana web site and so far 949,640 — yes ALMOST ONE MILLION PEOPLE — have taken a turn shooting at overly pregnant women, caricatured Mexican drug dealers and such as they run like hell across the border (depicted with easy-to-read signs).

The primary problem with things like this is that it allows people who have pent-up anger to take that anger to the next step without actually having to do it.  So the next time, what?  They’ll actually go through with it an enact their thoughts as a hate crime?  It happens, we’ve reported it. Everyone doesn’t have to love each other, but if we want to live in a productive society, we at least have to give each other a place.  Games like this go in the opposite direction, ultimately being counterproductive for all of us.

When I was the immigration reporter at The Brownsville Herald I would frequently get emails from people all over the country who would bash me as a person for what they perceived to be my “pro-illegal” views.  But the one that stands out most in my mind is one I received from a physician in Connecticut who suggested that, to keep the “illegals” out, we shoot the ones we catch in the knee caps so they can’t come back.

A physician, ostensibly trained to understand the sanctity of life, overcome with hate advocating something that would easily qualify as “cruel and unusual” punishment under our Constitution was a pretty extreme example of what lengths people will go given outlets like these.  What do you all think?
