Are Latinos Shopaholics?
Only in this country, at this time, would anyone ask such a question.
But it’s a good spin on the exuberant  Latino spending power. At last count it was $356 billion. That’s a lot of spending juice for a paltry 45 million people (We expect that number to increase by about 10 million when the official Census numbers are published, but until then we’re OK with the 45 million. Or maybe we should take a vote?).
There are many ways to interpret the Latino spending power. Here’s what the Latin in America blog had to say:
“Studies has shown that female Hispanic consumer is highly cognizant of trends and styles and likes to shop for fashion, stated by Kim Kitchings, director of research and strategic planning for Cotton Incorporated.
They like to jump on a trend as it’s happening, rather than catching it when it’s phased through the mainstream.
Hispanic women are very much into their appearance and how they comes across, shares Evan Gordon, president and founder of Hispanicity, a Chicago-based Hispanic marketing agency.”
Lets follow the logic. The Latino spending power is incredibly high, and Latinas love fashion, so, according to the blog, Latinos must be shopaholics. It’s an interesting addition to the stack of Latino stereotypes.
Anyone out there have numbers on Latino credit card debt?
