¡Qué se Casen! Less Americans Get Married
A study came out recently showing that less Americans are getting married, and more are just shacking up. I’m sure this is driving mothers and grandmothers everywhere crazy. The Population Reference Bureau study found:
- From 2000-2009 adults aged 25-34 who were married dropped 10%
- The drop was from 55% to 45%
- At the same time, the number who have never been married went from 34% to 46%
- The total number of people over 18 and married dropped from 57% to 52% (the lowest proportion since the Census Bureau first started collecting data)
- Less than 50% of women are married, 49.9% to be precise
- There are more unmarried women in the country than married women in the U.S.
- Meanwhile, cohabitation (aka shacking up) is on the rise
