They’re calling the Latinos in South Omaha the “X” factor. That’s because the Latino population in the biggest city in Nebraska totals about 13 percent of the population, enough to sway the upcoming mayoral election.  So much so that Latino issues have become a deciding factor.

A Nebraskan political activist named Ben Salazar was quoted in a Fox News Latino story:

“Across Nebraska and across this country Latinos are actually having a big impact on who gets elected to particular offices. Whoever does the best at being aware of the issues that drive Latinos to the ballot box will win.”

The trouble is that most Omaha Latino voters don’t know which way they’ll vote. That said, Latino issues are front and center in Omaha, and that’s worth keeping an eye out on that race and the Latino voters in Nebraska. The election is May 14th.
