Latina Runs For House Seat In Her Hometown Of El Paso
Mary Gonzalez grew up in El Paso and is set to run for house district 75 — the same district where she grew up. According to her bio:
[Photo By State Of Texas]…from Clint, Texas…Mary received her Bachelor Degrees in History and Mexican American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2009, she received her Master of Liberal Arts with a concentration in Social Justice from St.Edward’s University. Currently, she is pursuing her Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction- Cultural Studies in Education at the University of Texas at Austin, focusing research on the intersections of ability,gender, race and sexuality.
During the early stages of Mary’s professional career, she worked for Texas State Representatives Paul Moreno and Richard Raymond. Previously, she served as Assistant Director in the Office of Research and Demonstration at the National Hispanic Institute and as Program Coordinator in the Multicultural Engagement Center at The University of Texas at Austin. Most recently, Mary was the Assistant Dean for Student Multicultural Affairs at Southwestern University. Currently, Mary is a Visiting Instructor at Southwestern University, as well as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Texas at Austin, where she develops curriculum for the UT Outreach Centers in San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley. She is also forming her own consulting company, Izel Consulting.
