Nopal Fest In Baldwin Park, CA Highlights Health
The second annual La Feria del Nopal was held on Saturday in Baldwin Park, California, a suburb outside of Los Angeles and News Taco was on the scene. The event was lively — there was no parking to be found anywhere near the event — and families looked like they came from all over Southern California to hang out at the event.
The event started as part of Juan’s Restaurant’s goal to show people the health benefits of consuming nopales. And as a matter of fact there were several health-related parts of the event available; there were experts from local medical schools on hand, and a doctor took questions from the audience of mostly elderly people about the health benefits of nopales.
There were giant, inflatable nopales standing on either side of the stage where music and dancing went on sporadically during the eight hours of the fair. There was food made of nopales, including nopal tortillas, and vendors from all over came to sell their wares. A pair of men were even performing “limpias” for donations. Children painted nopales, a few vendors sold nopal products and all in all, it was a great event.
