Pegue, Also Known As “Mojo”
So recently, and for some inexplicable reason, I seem to have some pretty strong pegue. For those of us not in the know, “pegue,” is the word used to describe that “it” that some people have when they seem to be attracting everyone (and literally in some cases) their mom, too. Perhaps it’s my trucker hat, or the fact that I’m now a bloguera suprema, or that I’m simply a happy person, but literally everywhere I turn there’s some guy who wants to smile that special smile at me.
My mother’s supposition is that, now that I’m a confident and happy person, my aura of enthusiasm is irresistible. Others have told me that it’s been the News Taco diet that might be the reason. Still, others have noted that, well, I’m young and single and there’s no reason why people wouldn’t be attracted to me.
Whatever it is, I find it interesting to try to explain the phenomenon to others. Unless you know what “pegue” means, or have some understanding for what the verb pegar means (incidentally, one of its primary definitions is to stick or to glue), it’s hard to convey the total meaning of this word. It’s as though you have taken Love Potion #9 or something, or that you have the strongest pheromones in the room, or that everyone was suddenly struck by Cupid’s arrow for you.
Or something like that.
The concept of pegue, I find, varies from group-to-group. In my case I say it joking, I’m rather incredulous that I could possibly be that attractive while eating my taco salad, blogging, in my shorts and chanclas, or when I’m returning a rental truck, or when I’m asking where the bathroom is for that matter! The phenomenon has even seemed to spread into the realm of El Internet, where my pegue is not lost on men I do not even know via social networks and over email.
Does this concept of pegue resonate with you, or is there another word for it?
