Attacking Racial Profiling In Texas
[Editor’s Note: The following post was written by the hosts of The TNA Show, a radio show every Friday night from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.]
In Texas, the legislature is working on passing a bill that will legalize racial profiling in the state, commonly referred to as the sanctuary cities bill, SB9. The bill is badly written and as a result it will lead to the harassment of Latinos. More and more people I know, who tend not to discuss politics, are starting to get worried and asking what can we do.
A lot of people want to do something but not sure what to do.
Two weeks ago, the show traveled to Austin to participate in the Texas Can Do Better Rally that took place on a Wednesday afternoon and last week there was a prayer vigil held in Dallas on a Thursday afternoon during work hours. Both events are great and help get the message across about how people feel about the bill, but there are lot of people who want to participate and cannot. They cannot because there schedules are not flexible enough to travel and take time off in the middle of the day. This protest allows everyone to participate from the comfort of their home.
We at The TNA Show have put together an opportunity for people to protest this bill by using social media. A lot of us are already on Facebook and Twitter and we can fight the system from our couches, smartphones, or Starbucks.
On Sunday, we encourage everyone on Facebook to Like Governor Rick Perry’s page and then post your concerns and dislikes and ramifications of this bill. Also, to do the same on the governor’s Twitter account. The goal is to let Governor Perry, his Facebook friends, and Twitter followers know where we stand on this racist bill and the other anti-Latino bills being tossed around.
Please join us on Sunday on Facebook and Twitter letting Governor Perry know where you stand on this issue!
