Before he traveled to El Paso to make a speech about immigration President Obama convened three different groups of Latino leaders and celebrities at the white House to, supposedly, lay the groundwork for what was to come.
Among those invited to one of the first soirées was San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. It made sense to connect with Castro after the President’s speech, to see what he thought about it and to have a general (although short) conversation about immigration in general, the politics behind it, and the chances for a serious reform to be enacted before Obama’s first term ends.
