Bean Vs. Bean: Comparing Pintos And Black Beans

If there’s one thing we know for sure at News Taco, it’s that I’m a beaner through and through. But, just what kind of beans are we talking here? I’m partial to the pinto beans myself, although I have family members and friends of the Central American variety who swear by the black beans. I like both, and luckily, it seems that nutritionally, they are right about the same anyways.

According to these two charts from LiveStrong.com, the two beans have about the same amounts of protein, carbs and fat:

And looking at Self Magazine’s nutritional database, you can see that both black and pinto beans have comparably good levels of iron, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, copper and more. The two do differ in vitamins, but minerals seem to abound here. Check out pintos here and black beans here.

So, it seems, ultimately there’s no big difference to the type of beaner you are, other than your own personal taste. Especially considering that, for myself anyway, I eat both beans the same way: refried with corn tortillas. When you add some cheese and aguacate, everything tastes good, right?
