Border Agents Taze LA Resident Into Coma
The LA Weekly reports that a 41 year-old Los Angeles area resident, who’s been in the US since his childhood, is in a coma in Phoenix after a tazing incident involving the US Border Agents.
Jose Gutierrez was deported on March 21st because he is undocumented. He’s got a wife, two kids, and a job as a film engineer. He has no ties to Mexico. So his family waited for his return – they were sure he’d make his way back.
The next she heard of him, Gutierrez was in a coma at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.
Wilson got a call from the Mexican consulate in Yuma, Arizona, saying, “We have to let you know that there has been an accident.”
Gutierrez’ wife, Shena Wilson, says she was told that her husband made it to “second inspection” at the San Luis point of entry in Arizona when he “got scared and tried to run back.” He allegedly tried to fight off CBP agents and they got him with their tazers.
LA Weekly quotes the official g0vernment report:
An individual being processed for entering the country illegally March 30, at the San Luis Port attempted to flee into Mexico. The man was combative, ignored commands to halt and subsequently was subdued by CBP officers using an electronic control device (ECD). Initial reports say the man struck his head on the ground during the incident.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and took him to a local area hospital for further medical attention.
We regret the injury and will continue to actively cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Gutierrez is in a hospital bed with tazer marks on his chest, two black eyes, and pat of his skull removed to relieve the pressure of his swollen brain. He’s basically in a vegetative state and two ICE officers stand guard outside his hospital room.
Meanwhile, Wilson claims a St. Joseph’s social worker has told her that — because Gutierrez is illegal — he has no rights outside imprisonment, and is ineligible for medical care inside the U.S.
“They tell me, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll move him back home,'” Wilson says. “But he’s lived here all his life. I’m like, ‘Stop calling it his home.'”
In his present state Gutierrez’ is ineligible for medical care and proceedings have begun to have him deported.
Apart from his family and work in LA, Gutierrez is the front man of a band called FZ10. Here’s a video of one of his performances – he’s the one doing lead vocals.
