Now That It Doesn’t Matter, Rahm Emanuel Supports DREAM Act
I can take politicking, but I can’t stand blatant lying. Rahm Emanuel, the former White House Chief of Staff, is taking a cue from John McCain in basically totally fabricating the past to suit his current needs and saying that he supports the DREAM Act.
Now, I suppose, that he’s running for mayor of Chicago — which we’ve reported in 2009 counted about 2.8 million people with 27% of them being Latino — and having to run against two Latino candidates (a puertorriqueño and mexicano), he’s trying to pander.
Well, the facts are the facts. And not only did Emanuel blatantly say that immigration reform would have to wait until President Barack Obama’s presumed second term, but, both he and Obama did very little to pass the DREAM Act before, or after, it was clear the Democrats would lose power after last fall’s election.
Lame! Here’s some of the things that Chicago candidates accused Rahm of, according to The Huffington Post:
- “Miguel del Valle’s campaign spokeswoman accused Emanuel of stealing del Valle’s ideas.”
- A spokeswoman for the Gery Chico campaign called the plan a “straight-up pander.
I’ll give Emanuel credit for finally coming around, but it’s almost too little, too late. Showing up on Telemundo and announcing that the city should create a “Chicago DREAM Act” is a great gesture, but if doing so takes the same kind of precedence that immigration reform did on the national level, Chicago residents will be waiting for quite some time.
