Fujimori’s Daughter Runs For President In Perú

An interesting story out of Perú. The daughter of Former President and currently imprisoned Alberto Fujimori has formed her own political party to run for president and is currently in third place. Keiko Fujimori, 35, is a former congresswoman and leader of Fuerza 2011 is running as a centrist and trying to capitalize on her father’s success with Perú’s economy during his presidency.

If you recall, Alberto Fujimori was convicted on all kinds of charges, ranging from corruption and human rights abuses, and is serving 25 years in jail in Perú. The Los Angeles time did an excellent job rounding up news about Keiko.

Keiko Fujimori is polling behind a former mayor of Lima and a former president. She earned a Master’s degree from Columbia University, visits her father in jail for advice, has said she’d pardon her father if elected, served as “first lady” after her parents divorced while her father was in office and has decidedly not won over recent Nobel literature laureate Mario Vargas Llosa. He called her father a “dictator” and said she’d be a “catastrophe.”
