Obama Plans New Staff, No Latinos Included
President Barack Obama is set to revamp his staff next year and — in a surprise NewsTaco has been anticipating — no Latinos are slated to be on board, at least according to Politico.
At least 50 million Latinos are set to be counted in the next Census (probably lots more) and Latinos are largely responsible for population growth in the U.S., what’s more the number of eligible Latino voters is set to skyrocket, and yet, here we are again.
The Obama administration is making a great mistake. It’s like the Democrats already forgot last month’s election, where Republican- and Tea Party-backed Latinos made a killing, while Latino Democrats in places like Texas lost seats. Has the administration and the Democratic Party been paying attention? Or is Obama mad at Latinos because of that whole busted lip incident (just kidding!)?
Here’s a quick and clear message: If you do not start making a place for Latinos at the power-sharing table you are going to lose out. This isn’t some passing fad, a fake trend or minor issue. Es súper importante. Latinos are going to make up a sizable part of the U.S. population and, when it comes to President Obama’s circle of influence, Ken Salazar as Secretary of the Interior and Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis are it? Those ratios aren’t, exactly, remotely even.
It’s time for President Obama and the Democrats to wake up, or they will have no one else to blame but themselves when they begin to lose votes to the Republicans.
