No Charges For Racist Seattle Cop Who Beat Latino

“I’m going to beat the f***ing Mexican piss out of you, homey. You feel me?”

Those were the words of Seattle Detective Shandy Cobane to a Latino man detained by Seattle police in April. The city has decided not to press charges — but more on that in a moment.

Basically what happened was there was a report of a crime by a Latino-looking man, so the police went trolling for whatever Latinos they could find, found one and then not only screamed these words at him while he was lying face down on the ground, but then proceeded to stomp on him. Incidentally, the guy had nothing to do with anything. Here’s the video:

So in the name of justice, city attorneys will not file misdemeanor charges against Cobane (the kicker and speaker of the racism) or Officer Mary Lynne Woollum, who kicked and stomped him. The city attorneys said, “Though the incident was marred by an unacceptable and unnecessary racist comment, our office concludes that neither officer’s conduct was criminal, and I decline to file misdemeanor charges” because “they used reasonable force under state law to gain compliance from a suspect who wasn’t following police commands.”

The Seattle Police Department is still conducting an internal review, but this whole thing is hogwash. The saddest part is that the police chief is a Latino. What seems to be going on is that the department is obviously not under the chief’s control, but rather, part of the Anglo establishment that wants to continue to operate with impunity as they have been doing forever.
