Heidi Jones And Yet Another Latino Rapist

Weather forecaster Heidi Jones, 37, was suspended from her job Wednesday after she filed a fake police report claiming she was raped and stalked by a “Hispanic man.” She worked for New York City’s ABC affiliate, WABC, and filled in sometimes on “Good Morning America.” She will likely lose her job.

This is the gist of what she said. On September 24 she was jogging in the park, a Hispanic man attacked her, dragged her into a wooded area, but was scared away by tourists. Jones did not report this “crime.” Then, in November she went to a police precinct to report she was “approached again by the same man who did this before.”

Luckily, the police began to figure out her story was bunk. Jones was, in fact, making this up to try to gain sympathy for her relationship problems. My question is — why does the “suspect” always have to be a Latino or a black man? Aren’t the majority of the people in this country white, and as we reported today, don’t people mostly self-segregate in their neighborhoods, making it more likely her suspect would be white?

I’m exhausted of seeing over and over in the media that “suspects” are brown men. I can’t count the number of times that I’ve seen the same handful of Latino actors play gang members, rapists and murderers on all the crime TV shows — is there really no other work these young men can do? And when it comes to crazy white ladies trying to “fix” their relationships by crying rape (which is an abomination in and of itself), can’t they make their boyfriends just as jealous by saying they were raped by white men?

It’s insulting, because honestly, we can all decode what she was saying. The implication is that it’s more “believable” that a Latino or black man would be a rapist because, well, you know how those people are.
