Latinos Use Twitter More Than Whites, Blacks
A study from the Pew Internet and American Life Project found that 8% of adults in the U.S. use Twitter. But, in the survey’s results, 18% of these users were Latinos who responded “yes” when asked if they used the 140-character update service — which may also be used via cell phones.
The upshot is Latinos use Twitter almost four times as much as whites, only 5% of whom reported using Twitter; this figure was 13% for blacks surveyed. More on why in a bit, but some other interesting results showed that more women (10%) than men (7%) used Twitter, most of the users fell into the 18-29 age range (14%) and urban dwellers were more likely than suburban dwellers to use Twitter.
We previously reported that Latinos love location services like Foursquare and Gowalla primarily because they are younger as a group than other ethnic sub-groups in the U.S. and these services — like Twitter — tend to be used more by a younger generation. Also, Latinos are more likely than whites to use their cell phones to access the Internet, say, like send a tweet.
